Relay For Life concentrates on three main things: Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back. The Candle of Hope ceremony is the part of the Relay event where we take time to remember all those who have been affected by cancer. It’s the only time that Relay stand still and is a time when we can share both grief and joy and when we can support each other.
How can your team get involved?
The committee will be sending out Candle of Hope bags to team captains, so you have the opportunity to both decorate these yourselves and ask others for donations to dedicate a candle bag.
You can ask for a suggested donation of £1 for each Candle of Hope bag. You can download a Candle of Hope dedication form here. Using these forms means that people can Gift Aid their donation and we have also found that sometimes they give more than the suggested £1.
- Pre-decorate some bags using old greetings cards and ask for a higher suggested donation.
- Get the kids involved and use their creative talents!
- Ask your local whether they would be interested in doing a project on Cancer Awareness and decorate the bags as part of this.
Make sure you invite anyone who decorates a bag to come and see their bag in the ceremony!
